My Story

Music surrounds us all day long, from the television, to our car radio to the grocery store. For so many people making your own music completes a part of our lives that makes us happy. Learning to create and play music yourself can add quality to your life.

Having had a career teaching others how to play musical instruments I have developed a passion about teaching and want to reach more people.

I have had a great deal of lesson teachers throughout my years of learning and progressing on the flute and yet Mrs. Mary Jo has by far been the most constructive, informative, and enjoyable teacher that I have had. I believe she provides a beautiful perspective into the world of music that engraves new found inspiration and appreciation for the art and encourages growth through her shared wisdom and instruction on the subject. It is rare to come across such an experienced and passionate individual that so openly shares years of gathered understanding and expertise. I have benefited immensely from holding the title as one of her pupils through incorporating her lessons into my musical career and can confidently recommend her to anyone eager in taking the next steps to improve their skills.

Working with Mary Jo has been an uplifting experience where I always leave feeling like I’ve gained confidence and have a plan to correct problems I’m encountering. She is patient, encouraging, and her enthusiasm is infectious. Her knowledge really shines with her ability to spot issues and give encouraging correction. "Mary Jo Tenison-Willis' Flute Choir, “Fluteworks” was based in Little Rock, AR. Fluteworks was a thrilling musical group for flutists, with the group size ranging from about 12-20 flute players. I joined the flute choir in 1990 and played C Flute and Alto Flute through 2003. Mary Jo has both the musical expertise and the creative vision to create an engaging and well-balanced online flute program that will both challenge and inspire performers. If you are looking for a flute professional who can inspire you to grow as a flute player, you will find it in working together with Ms. Tenison-Willis."

I was visiting with old friends and was bragging about how good I used to be playing sax when growing up.  On my doorstep I found a brand new saxophone from my friends. Upon receipt of this new saxophone I became accountable to play them something on video immediately, my deadline was Christmas, they waited patiently.

Oh no!  I have to send a video of me playing saxophone by Christmas - What am I going to do?????

Enter Mary Jo.  I enlisted Mary Jo to get me ready for this tall task in short order.

We met our objective thanks to Mary Jo!  I appreciate her simplifying everything and being patient.  She helped guide me through the music book more effectively and that has helped me prioritize areas I needed to learn in order to achieve my goals.  I exceeded my friends expectations with the videos and I never would have been able to accomplish that without Mary Jo.  I now believe I have the confidence and practice techniques to be successful thanks to Mary Jo and that is very important.
